Historically, Baptists are not known as great theologians. We have many great preachers and many heroic missionaries, but few thinkers who have produced great works of systematic theology. One notable exception is John Dagg. His magnum opus, Manual of Theology, was written in 1857. It was the first true work of systematic theology written by a Baptist in the United States. Even today, 160 years later, Dagg’s work is a great resource for those wanting to study theology from a Baptist perspective.
